Compliance with South Australian Single-Use Plastic Regulations

Compliance with South Australian Single-Use Plastic Regulations

Dear Valued Customers and Friends,

We at Whole In One Communion wish to address recent inquiries regarding the environmental impact of our products, specifically in relation to the single-use plastic ban implemented in South Australia on September 1, 2024. To provide context, here's an excerpt from the official definition of the ban:

"The Single-use and Other Plastic Products (Waste Avoidance) Act 2020 prohibits the sale, supply, and distribution of certain single-use plastic products in South Australia. This includes single-use plastic straws, cutlery, and beverage stirrers, as well as expanded polystyrene cups, bowls, plates, and clamshell containers."

We appreciate your environmental consciousness and would like to provide clarity on how this legislation relates to our products.

Product Compliance We are pleased to confirm that our communion cups are not affected by the current ban. As our products are classified as packaged food and drink, they do not fall within the scope of the single-use beverage container regulations.

We've published a detailed information guide on our blog that breaks down the legislation and explains why our cups are exempt. It's a bit of legal jargon, but we've tried to make it as easy to understand as possible. Check it out here: Information Guide: Understanding Prefilled Communion Cups and SA Plastic Ban Exemptions

Environmental Considerations While our products remain compliant, we recognise the importance of sustainability in today's world. To this end, we are actively engaged in the following initiatives:

        - Research and Development: We are investigating more sustainable materials and production methods for future product iterations.
        - Current Product Composition: Our cups are manufactured using PP (Polypropylene), a recyclable plastic. However, we acknowledge that current recycling infrastructure limitations may affect local recyclability.
        - Disposal Recommendations: Given the present recycling constraints, we advise disposing of used cups and film in general waste bins.

Industry Commitment As a member of the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO), we adhere to best practices aimed at achieving the 2025 National Packaging Targets and the new 2030 Strategic Plan. This commitment underscores our dedication to environmental stewardship within our industry.

We value your partnership and remain committed to supporting your communion needs while being mindful of environmental considerations. Rest assured, we're committed to making your communion services as smooth and meaningful as possible, all while being mindful of our environmental impact.

Should you have any questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact us. We appreciate your continued trust in Whole In One Communion.
